  • RSG-India has launched a Journal Club for Bioinformatics where members can gather and discuss on predefined topics that include novel research works, algorithms, software demonstrations, career issues and related areas. This group has close to 80 members and it has successfully conducted six such sessions so far since its inauguration on 25th July 2009.

  • Keeping track of important dates, organizing your academic engagements and planning for upcoming events is now easier, with the RSG-India calendar service! In keeping with our commitment to constantly improve our services to better serve the bioinformatics and computational biology student community, we have recently launched the RSG-India Calendar service. This calendar will serve as an easy reference and reminder service of all important dates and deadlines that are announced in posts on the RSG-India message board. Implemented using Google calendar, the RSG-India calendar service is very easy and convenient to use.

Sign up for the RSG-India calendar service to make your planning and scheduling tasks easier. Never miss another deadline! The calendar will be kept constantly up to date with all important event dates and critical details, to enable our members to easily keep track of what's happening and when, in the bioinformatics world.

To subscribe to the RSG-India calendar service, just log into your Google calendar account, search for the calendar of 'scrsgi@gmail.com' and send an access request. Need more help? Download the attached presentation to view a visual step-by-step guide to signing up. (The presentation can be opened on Microsoft Powerpoint or using Google docs if you don't have Powerpoint).

  • Project, Summer training, Internship, In-plant training.. Call it what you will. This kind of extracurricular learning experiences are being steadily more and more emphasised in college curricula. And apart from the curriculum, a good project is both a great learning experience and an excellent point on your C.V. (Yes, that too is important isn't it!). But selecting the right place to do an internship or project can be a confusing experience for many students. In the absence of proper information, students have to rely on a combination of hearsay, gut feeling and advice from friends and seniors to make a decision. With this mind, we have created the RSG-India Internships/Project reviews forum.

The forum will be a place where members can write their reviews about the lab or institution where they did their internship/project and read about others experiences. We feel that this forum can serve as a powerful way to leverage our collective knowledge to aid the Bioinformatics student community.

The forum for now, is hosted on Google groups. Click here to go to the RSG-India Intern reviews forum. Its an open group and anyone can post their reviews, (anonymously if they so desire). We strongly encourage all to contribute reviews to this forum. Your opinion or recommendation could very well turn out to be a crucial factor in someone's career!
