Funding Cycles
Thanks to an allocation of funds from the ISCB, the Student Council has started to provide funding support to selected proposals for events or initiatives from our RSGs through twice a year Funding cycles.
The first of these funding cycles was concluded in July 2010. Of the 10 proposals that were received, at this time we were able to fully fund proposals from RSG Eastern Africa and RSG-India and partially fund a proposal from RSG - Brazil. Details of these proposals are as follows
-
RSG Eastern Africa (400 USD) - To organize a workshop/hackathon teaching around 30 students Python and best practices in open source collaborative projects. At the end of the workshop the group of students would have together created a module that will be submitted to the BioPython project.
-
RSG India (400 USD) - To invite speakers to their Comp Bio Discussion group, a journal club/discussion group that has been operational for a year. They plan to expand this to create a network of Journal clubs around the country.
-
RSG Brazil (100 USD) - To organize a day long student centric event on the sidelines of the X - Meeting, an annual Bioinformatics conference organized in Brazil. The event will concentrate on themes that are usually neglected at academic conferences such as Education and Industry opportunities.
Our congratulations to RSGs Eastern Africa, India and Brazil, and we look forward to seeing the proposed events come to fruition!
