The Student
Council Goes Local -
Regional Student Groups
Over the past year
ISCB Student Council leaders have researched the possibility of
setting up Regional Student Groups (RSGs) in countries around the
world to better serve local student communities. The goal is to
conduct events, which will be beneficial to the professional
development of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology students on
a local level. Further, opportunities need to be created for
students to interact with local industry and organizations. A
request for setting up RSGs was submitted to the ISCB Board of
Directors and their approval was given in the fall of 2006. Talks
were held with student groups in several countries and the Student
Council got a positive response from them to partner in future
activities pertaining to students in their region. The Student
Council has so far successfully established three affiliated
RSGs in Singapore, India and Africa and is reviewing proposals from groups in Denmark and Canada.
