The ISCB Student Council organized and hosted the 7th ISCB Student Council Symposium 2011, which was held on Friday, July 15, 2011, directly preceding the Tutorials Day of ISMB2011 in Vienna, Austria. For more detailed information on Symposium events and activities, please refer to the Symposium Program.

The Student Council Symposium 2011 is a forum for students and young researchers in the fields of Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work to an international audience, build a network within the computational biology community and develop important soft skills in an environment that fosters exchange of ideas and knowledge.

Those students who would like to attend the SCS2011 and come from a country where a visa is needed to go ASAP to the Austrian Embassy to ask for the documentation needed in order for us to be aware of any document we could provide that could help them to get the VISA.

Call for Participation

Dear colleagues,

The 7th ISCB Student Council Symposium is right around the corner and this year we are going to Vienna (in Austria) on July 15th!

This event aims at bringing together young computational biologists from all areas of research and parts of the world. As the central part of our symposium, 12 students will present their work to a worldwide community of peers. Choosing only 12 was difficult, and some other excellent research projects will be presented during the poster session.

Call For Abstracts

Dear colleagues,

We invite you to submit an abstract and participate in the 7th Symposium of the International Society for Computational Biology Student Council on July 15th 2011 in Vienna. We accept abstracts covering both scientific studies as well as novel tools and applications in the fields of computational biology and bioinformatics. A few abstracts will be selected for oral presentations. Other interesting contributions will be accepted for poster presentations. Selected abstracts will be published.

Three Keynote Speakers Confirmed

Dr. Curtis Huttenhower, Biostatistics Department, Harvard School of Public Health, whose lab focused on computational methods for systems biology using data mining in large genomic data collections, will be the third keynote speaker at SCS2011.

Dr. Chad Myers, Asst. Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Minnesota has also agreed to deliver a Keynote address at SCS2011. Dr. Myers's research focuses on Machine learning methods for integrating large scale Genomic datasets to understand Gene function and Biological networks.

First Keynote Confirmed

We are happy to announce that Dr. Ivet Bahar, John K. Vries Chair in Computational & Systems Biology at the Department of Computational & Systems Biology, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh will be delivering a Keynote address at SCS2011. Dr. Bahar works on statistical mechanics of macromolecules,modelling of the structure and dynamics of Biomolecular complexes and modelling of Protein-protein, Protein-DNA and Protein-Drug interactions and related areas.
