About:
Farzana is a Bioinformatics Lecturer in the School of Human and Life Sciences at Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent, England, UK. She is a Fellow at the Higher Education Academy, UK. She is also a visiting Research Fellow at the University of South Wales, UK. Farzana earned her PhD at the Genomics and Computational Biology Research group at the University of South Wales in the UK. Prior to her PhD, Farzana completed a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree at the University of Glamorgan in the UK. Farzana’s research interest is linked to answering biological questions using evolution and functional genomics. Farzana is actively involved in improving “STEMM, Bioinformatics and Educational” research by implying innovative pedagogical methods.
Farzana became involved with ISCB-SC after attending the ISMB/ECCB 2013 in Berlin. Since 2013 Farzana has chaired, co-chaired and organised 8 symposia globally that includes Student Council’s flagship annual Symposia, Regional Student Groups Symposia and Local UK Bioinformatics Symposia. She co-founded the Regional Student Group in the UK. She has been elected secretary and Chair of the ISCB Student Council during 2015-2016 and 2016-2018 terms consecutively. She has also served as the Vice-Chair of the Regional Student Groups of European countries during 2015-2016. Farzana is currently co-chairing the Education and Internships committee of the ISCB Student Council and serves as an advisor of the RSG UK.
