About:
Dr. R. Gonzalo Parra is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the EMBL (Heidelberg, Germany) at the group of Dr. Oliver Stegle and develops methods to answer biological questions related to single cell transcriptomics in evolution and cancer. Previously, he was an EMBO postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, under the Guidance of Dr. Johannes Soeding where he transitioned from the structural bioinformatics field to become part of the omics wave. Gonzalo obtained his PhD from Buenos Aires University where he researched about energetic frustration and protein folding.
Gonzalo has been involved in the Student Council since 2012 when he co-founded the RSG Argentina, becoming its first elected president. From that moment, he was involved at different levels. Gonzalo was the Vice Chair for Latin America, chaired the 1st Latin American Student Council Symposium, chaired the 1st Argentinian Young Researchers Symposium and was part of the organizing committee at several SC Symposia in Latin America, USA and Europe. Since 2016, Gonzalo became part of the SC Executive committee, serving as its Secretary for the first 2 years and becoming its Vice Chair since 2018 until now.
